Project Gaia, together with Green Social Bioethanol, participated in the Africa Biogas and Clean Cooking Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, April 5-7. The conference was organized by Hivos, the Ethiopian Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity and SNV Netherlands Development Organisation.
Represented by Harry Stokes, Wubshet Tsehayu, and Desalegn Getaneh, Gaia discussed the importance of ethanol as a cooking fuel and its appropriateness in a variety of contexts. Reflecting on experience implementing ethanol cooking projects, Gaia’s delegation spoke about the organization’s humanitarian work, the commercial feasibility of ethanol, and opportunities for carbon financing.
Gaia is hopeful that its participation in the conference will raise the visibility of ethanol as a solution for clean cooking in Africa and help pave the way for increased access to renewable energy and a more sustainable future.
