Project Gaia invites you to our local stakeholder consultation for development of a Cookstove Program of Activities (PoA) in Ethiopia. The consultation is scheduled to take place on June 25, 2015 at Friendship International Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, and is being organized in partnership with Carbon Africa.
The purpose of the Cookstove Program of Activities is to promote the distribution of energy efficient cookstoves powered by ethanol from renewable sources. Project Gaia is seeking your input on the PoA, with the goal of registering the program under both the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and as a Gold Standard carbon-offset program. The program will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by encouraging the use of clean-burning ethanol as a substitute for kerosene, charcoal, and wood fuels. In addition it will also result in a number of direct benefits including reduction of deforestation and desertification, reduction of indoor air pollution, reduction of fuel costs, reduced healthcare costs from improved indoor air conditions and better environmental sanitation. The first project under this program will be implemented in Ethiopia.
Participants at the consultation will discuss the project’s design and its impact on sustainable development in Ethiopia. We look forward to receiving your valuable feedback on ways to improve its implementation.
